With an abundance of milk this season, I’ve found myself dreaming into new ways to weave it into my product line.
A few years ago I began experimenting with yogurt in soap. I loved the silky, moisturizing feel it gave the bar—the way the lather turned soft and cloudlike—but getting it to behave consistently was another story.
So, I returned to the lye calculator and reworked the formula from the ground up. This time, I replaced the full water portion with milk and folded the yogurt directly into the oils. The result is a bar that feels deeply nourishing—creamy, gentle, and quietly luxurious on the skin.
Yogurt brings a number of beautiful qualities to soap:
A softer, richer lather
The natural milk sugars help build bubbles that feel dense and velvety rather than airy.
Moisture and softness
Yogurt’s fats lend a conditioning quality that leaves skin feeling supple and cared for.
Gentle exfoliation
Lactic acid (an AHA) offers a mild exfoliating effect, helping to lift away dullness and reveal smoother skin beneath.
Soothing support
There’s a calming quality to yogurt that can be especially welcome for dry or easily irritated skin.
A creamy, luxurious texture
It contributes to that signature milk soap feel—one that’s less about stripping and more about replenishing.
So, goat milk or goat milk yogurt?
Truthfully—both. Each brings its own subtle strength. Rich in fats, proteins, vitamins, and minerals, they support the skin in slightly different ways. And while not every nutrient survives the saponification process intact, what remains is something you can feel: a bar that is gentle, hydrating, and deeply comforting to use.
There’s also something quietly magical about the sugars in milk—the way they transform the lather into something soft, almost dreamlike.
The Summer’s End Yogurt Collection is a small, seasonal offering made with our fresh goat milk and homemade yogurt, scented with some of my favorite late-summer notes.
As always with these batches, they’re limited. When they’re gone, they’re gone until next season.
