With an abundance of milk I’m dreaming of new ways to add it to my product line.
A few years ago I dabbled with yogurt in soap and while I loved the moisturizing feel and creamy lather, getting it to soap consistently ended in frustration.
So I went back to the lye calculator and created a new formula. I opted to replace the water portion with milk and added the yogurt to my oils. This creates a highly moisturizing bar with a wonderful feel on the skin.
Here are some of the benefits of yogurt in soap:
Improved Lather:
Yogurt contains milk sugars that can boost lather, creating a richer, creamier feel.
Moisturizing:
The natural fats in yogurt help to hydrate and soften the skin, making the soap more moisturizing.
Gentle Exfoliation:
Lactic acid, a type of alpha hydroxy acid(AHA), can help gently exfoliate the skin by removing dead skin cells, potentially revealing brighter, smoother skin.
Soothing Properties:
Yogurt can help soothe irritated or dry skin due to its moisturizing and anti-inflammatory properties. Potential Anti-Aging Effects: The AHAs in yogurt may also help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Creamy Texture:
Yogurt can contribute to a more luxurious and creamy texture in the final soap
Goat milk or goat milk yogurt? Both have natural fats and proteins that moisturize the skin and contribute to it’s creamy lather; both are rich in vitamins and minerals contributing to the health of the skin and while not all components survive the saponification process at full strength they contribute to the nourishing, hydrating, gentle feel of a milk soap. Plus the natural sugars in milk boost bubbles and create a soft dreamy lather for a luxurious skin nourishing experience.
